Buried in Paperwork

If you're like most small business owners, you're already working way more hours than you would if you had a regular JOB. And the dream of more freedom to spend time with your family, to go on vacations, to do the things that owning a business should make possible, no longer seems feasible.

Worse yet, even with all of your time commitment, your sales seem to have reached a plateau well short of providing the lifestyle you want for your family and that they deserve.

Recognizing this constraint is usually the first step to solving it by enlisting the help of professional office assistants who provide office services and support without being physically onsite at your location.

When is it time to delegate?

So how do you know when it is time to outsource and what are some tasks that it makes sense for you to delegate? The short answer is, you will definitely know the time has come when you feel like you don't have room to wear one more hat.  Then it's time to delegate!

And when the dream of more freedom to spend time with your family, to go on vacations, to do the things that owning a business should make possible, no longer seems feasible.  Then it's time to delegate!

When your sales have reached a plateau because you truly don't have time to handle one more client/customer until you clear some of your current commitments off of your plate. Then it's time to delegate!

If you feel like your business revenues swing from feast to famine. If you go from fully booked and unable to even look for new business to a mad scramble to find your next customer. Then it's time to delegate!

What tasks should be delegated?

But what tasks should you consider delegating? The answer is relatively simple. Anything that can be done by someone other than you at a cost that is less than your effective hourly rate and that you don't place high on your list of things you like to do.

You may not know your effective hourly rate, but you probably know what it is not. For example, if you really enjoy bookkeeping, then it may not make sense to delegate that task.  But if bookkeeping doesn't even make the list of things you enjoy doing, then doing bookkeeping tasks is the equivalent of valuing your time at whatever rate you can outsource that task. Yes, you may have the knowledge and/or skills to perform a particular task, but is it the best use of your time?
